The short version
Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Uchen app ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.
These Terms apply to all users of Uchen, including users of the free version and Uchen Pro. These Terms are an agreement between you and Tenzin Thinley ("we", "us", or "our").
If you are using Uchen on behalf of a child, you agree to these Terms on the child's behalf and are responsible for ensuring the child's use complies with these Terms.
License to Use
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Uchen for your personal, non-commercial educational purposes, subject to these Terms.
This license does not include the right to:
- Modify, copy, or create derivative works based on the App
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Sell, rent, lease, or sublicense access to the App
- Remove any copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices
- Use the App for any commercial purpose without our written consent
- Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
Uchen Pro — In-App Purchase
Uchen offers an optional one-time purchase called Uchen Pro that unlocks additional content and removes advertising.
Uchen Pro includes
- All 30 Tibetan consonants (free version includes first 10)
- All 4 vowel signs (དབྱངས།)
- Tibetan numbers 1–10 (གྲངས་ཀ།)
- PDF progress report export
- Removal of banner and interstitial advertisements
Payment. Uchen Pro is a non-consumable, one-time purchase processed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store. You will be charged at the time of purchase. Prices are displayed in your local currency at the point of purchase.
No subscription. Uchen Pro is a single payment with no recurring charges. Once purchased, Pro features are yours permanently.
Restore purchases. If you reinstall the App or switch devices, you can restore your Uchen Pro purchase at no additional charge using the "Restore Purchases" option in Settings.
Refunds. All purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Refund requests must be submitted to Apple or Google according to their respective refund policies:
Content and Intellectual Property
All content in Uchen — including but not limited to the Tibetan script characters, educational text, audio recordings, illustrations, app design, and code — is owned by or licensed to Tenzin Thinley and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
The Jomolhari font used to display Tibetan script is licensed under the SIL Open Font License. Audio recordings of Tibetan pronunciation are original recordings created specifically for this app.
Your learning progress data (quiz scores, tracing history, streaks) is yours. It is stored on your device and you may delete it at any time by uninstalling the app.
Acceptable Use
You agree to use Uchen only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms. You must not:
- Use the App in any way that could damage, disable, or impair its functionality
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the App or its systems
- Use the App to transmit any harmful, offensive, or illegal content
- Use automated tools to access or scrape the App's content
- Circumvent any security or access controls within the App
- Misrepresent the App or its content
Advertising
The free version of Uchen displays advertisements served by Google AdMob. By using the free version, you consent to the display of these advertisements.
We do not control the content of third-party advertisements. Advertisements are configured for child-appropriate content (G-rated) and child-directed treatment under COPPA.
Purchasing Uchen Pro permanently removes all advertisements from the App.
Disclaimer of Warranties
Important — please read
Uchen is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any content in the App, including the educational content about the Tibetan script.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Tenzin Thinley shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of Uchen, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data or learning progress
- Interruption of service
- Errors or inaccuracies in content
- Any other damages arising from use of or inability to use the App
In no event shall our total liability to you exceed the amount you paid for Uchen Pro, or USD $5.00 if you have not made any purchase.
Apple and Google Requirements
These Terms are an agreement between you and Tenzin Thinley, not with Apple Inc. or Google LLC. Apple and Google are not responsible for the App or its content.
For iOS users: Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support services for Uchen. In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). Apple has no other warranty obligations. Any claims relating to the App are governed by these Terms, not by Apple.
By using Uchen, you also agree to comply with Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (where applicable).
Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you through the App.
Your continued use of Uchen after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the App.
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in India. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you may also have rights under your local consumer protection laws.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining Terms remain in full force and effect.
